Vegan Tartar Sauce
Tartar, with one of its main ingredients being mayonnaise, sadly isn’t vegan. But thankfully we now have an abundance of vegan mayonnaise options in our supermarkets, making homemade vegan tartar sauce an option! With the addition of gherkins, capers, herbs, and lemon juice, you have yourself a plant based alternative to this classic condiment.
For the dip we’ll be using:
100g vegan mayonnaise
1 tbsp capers
1 gherkin, chopped
Handful of parsley or dill, finely chopped
Juice of half a lemon
1/2 tsp dijon mustard
Salt and pepper
Add all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix together. Make sure to give it a taste test to see if you want to make any adjustments! You can add in extra lemon, gherkins, herbs, mustard, salt and pepper, or even some olives if you fancy it!
As tartar sauce is typically used alongside seafood dishes, why not serve this tartar with my tofu “fish” fingers? Or if you grab yourself some vegan fish alternatives from the supermarket, this would make the perfect accompaniment.
